An individual who contaminated candy with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two children both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and one adult fell ill at the location in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.
However, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he operated.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said Ruben had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor explained objects including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepson notified the authorities about his concerns.
She said Ruben went on to engage in the "treat game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she added.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The legal representative explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.
She stated the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five children.
